This project is based on a series of frantic scrawlings made during a very busy autumn. I have a condition called Bipolar Disorder – a psychiatrist’s term for what is better known as Manic Depression. This mental illness is characterised by jubilant highs and crashing lows, and it was during one such high episode, in August and September 2006, that I created most of the verbal constructions you can find throughout this book. Over two days I scribbled uninterrupted, filling a spiral-bound book of over one-hundred pages.
Not Recommended for Use in Hot Beverages is available through on-demand publisher Blurb, and was nominated for the Photography Book Now People’s Choice Award in 2011. You can buy the book here.
